Security and Data Protection: Core Values at Nuki

Nuki smart locks are protected digitally with banking-grade AES-256 end-to-end encryption, and mechanically with the Universal Cylinder developed together with M&C. Security is addressed in two distinct layers: Nuki is designed to protect both your door against physical attack and your data against digital threats.
How secure is Nuki on the digital side?
Nuki uses banking-grade AES-256 end-to-end encryption throughout. This means the entire path from your phone to the lock motor is encrypted — no data is transmitted in readable form at any point in between. Authentication uses a challenge-response method, so unauthorized access attempts without a valid identity fail at the protocol level.
A critical point: not even the Nuki server can decrypt the content or the keys. Because encryption is end-to-end, the secrets controlling your lock remain exclusively between your device and the lock itself. The architecture is designed so that even a breach at the server level leaves your data unreadable.
Where is my data stored? Is it KVKK/GDPR compliant?
Nuki hosts data on EU servers in a structure compliant with both KVKK and GDPR. For users in Türkiye, this means personal data is processed on servers subject to European data protection standards. Data security is not only about encryption — it also concerns where and under what legal framework the data is held. Nuki addresses both dimensions together.
Completing this infrastructure is independent audit: Nuki is certified as a secure smart home product by AV-TEST. Security claims are not limited to the manufacturer's own declarations — they have been evaluated by an independent institution. For installation and compatibility questions, see the FAQ page.
How does Nuki protect against physical attacks?
Digital security alone is not sufficient — a smart lock is only as secure as the cylinder it sits on. Nuki addresses this on the mechanical side as well. The Nuki Universal Cylinder was developed with M&C, Europe's cylinder specialist, and is built to resist physical attack methods.
The cylinder holds SKG* and EN 1303 ratings — among the highest security classifications in the industry**. In practice, this means protection against the most common physical attack methods:
- Anti-pick: Resistant to picking attempts with lock picks
- Anti-bump: Resistant to bump key techniques
- Anti-drill: Resistant to drilling attempts
- Anti-snap: Resistant to cylinder snap attacks
The cylinder also includes an emergency function to ensure continued access when needed.
Is the lock visible from outside?
No. The Nuki lock mounts on the inside of the door and is not visible from outside. This matters both aesthetically and for security: from the street, no one can tell there is a smart lock on your door, and the physical key continues to work as normal. The approach combines digital and mechanical protection without creating a visible target.
Which Nuki model is right for me?
Nuki's security architecture is the foundation across all models; what differs is the feature set and target scenario. For the most advanced option, see Smart Lock Ultra. For a balanced choice, see Smart Lock Pro (5th Gen). Compare models at nuki.com.tr/urunleri-karsilastir. Confirm compatibility with your door at the compatibility page.
Security and data protection are not features added on top of Nuki's product — they are the foundation. End-to-end encryption and EU data protection standards on the digital side; SKG*** and EN 1303 rated mechanical protection on the physical side.
