The problem with traditional guest access
Handing over a physical key, maintaining a key box, and coordinating manual drop-offs are all friction points that scale poorly — especially in short-term rental or property management scenarios. Nuki Smart Lock resolves these with four distinct guest access methods, each suited to a different context.
Four ways to grant guest access with Nuki
1. Digital key (Bluetooth)
Send a digital key to a guest directly from the Nuki app. The guest installs the Nuki app and opens the door over Bluetooth with a tap. The host has full control: access can be time-restricted to the reservation window and revoked instantly from anywhere. Every access event is logged.
2. Keypad PIN code
The Keypad 2 mounted outside the door accepts a 6-digit PIN. No smartphone required — practical for guests of any age and for anyone not comfortable with apps. PINs can be permanent, time-restricted, or single-use.
3. NFC Fob or card
Holding an NFC Fob close to the Keypad opens the door in under a second. No code to remember, no app to open — the fastest physical access method after Bluetooth Auto Unlock.
4. Single-use code
Generated once, valid for one use, automatically invalidated after first use. Ideal for couriers, contractors, or any situation where one-time entry is sufficient and maximum security is required.
Advanced features
- Time-based restrictions: Set a start and end date and time for each access grant. Access expires automatically — no manual revocation required
- Instant revocation: Cancel any guest's access immediately from the Nuki app, regardless of your location
- Access logs and notifications: See who opened the door, when, and how. Push notifications available for each access event
- Emergency revocation: All access can be suspended immediately if a security concern arises
Security best practices
- Use time windows matching the exact reservation period — avoid open-ended access
- Audit active codes periodically and remove any that are no longer needed
- Enable push notifications so you're aware of all access events in real time
- Always keep a backup physical key in a secure location as a fallback
