What is smart home integration?
Smart home integration connects IoT devices from different manufacturers so they can be managed from a shared control point and linked together through automation rules. Nuki Smart Lock works with the four largest smart home platforms and is future-ready through Matter and Thread support.
Supported platforms
Apple HomeKit
Control the Nuki lock with Siri voice commands ("Hey Siri, lock the front door"), trigger automations when you arrive or leave home, and manage access remotely through the Home app. Requires a Home hub (HomePod mini, Apple TV 4K, or iPad).
Google Home
Use Google Assistant commands to lock and unlock, and build routines that combine the lock with other Google Home devices. Example: a "Good night" routine that locks the door, turns off lights, and sets the thermostat.
Amazon Alexa
Voice control via Alexa commands. For security, unlocking via voice can be gated behind a voice PIN — you speak a code before Alexa executes the unlock command.
Samsung SmartThings
Matter-compatible devices like the Nuki Smart Lock Ultra operate over the local network with SmartThings, enabling fast response without cloud dependency.
Matter and Thread
Matter is an open application-layer standard backed by Apple, Google, Amazon, and Samsung. A single Matter device works across all four platforms simultaneously. Thread is a low-power mesh communication protocol that delivers lock commands with very low latency and minimal battery drain.
Smart Lock Ultra supports both Matter and Thread, making it the most platform-compatible Nuki model. Smart Lock Go and Pro connect via Bluetooth and built-in Wi-Fi — fully functional, without Matter.
Practical automation scenarios
Morning routine: Alarm goes off, lock unlocks, coffee maker starts.
Away mode: Last person leaves and locks the door, lights off, HVAC switches to eco, security camera activates.
Vacation mode: Random light cycling, door stays locked, alert if any access event occurs.
